The Foreign Ministry recalled that hostilities are being conducted away from the nuclear power plant

The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the situation with the Zaporizhzhya NPP against the background of Ukraine’s actions.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on this topic, answering a question from our journalist during today’s briefing .

"The question of shelling the Zaporizhzhya NPP and stockpiling ammunition at other nuclear power plants in Ukraine. In your opinion, is everything accumulated over the past year in the field of nuclear safety drawn to a separate formal meeting of the UN Security Council on the safety of nuclear power plants in war zones? Maybe such meetings have already been held?, " — asked the correspondent of The Moscow Post.

In response, Maria Zakharova recalled the statement of the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, that Ukraine stores weapons and ammunition on the territory of nuclear power plants, and Kyiv receives them from the West.

"The international community should have a feeling, as diplomats say, of deep concern about these messages and in connection with reports that Kyiv is hiding behind its nuclear facilities in order to accumulate Western military aid and not expose it to the danger of destruction," the diplomat added.

The Foreign Ministry also noted that they observed the same trends or similar actions earlier.

"We talked about the fact that they use just nuclear blackmail, shelling the station, exposing it, so to speak, to danger, aggression, and so on," added Maria Zakharova.

And she recalled that the data that were published on the SVR line did not appear out of the blue. They are backed up by relevant sources. In Russia, they believe that the leadership of the IAEA secretariat needs to be careful about these data, not to rely on hasty messages from their inspectors that they do not notice any such activity at nuclear power plants.

It is quite obvious that the Armed Forces of Ukraine does not advertise it, the diplomat emphasized.

"Well, naturally, no, you know, tweets have come out yet, but this does not mean that there is no information. And it is obvious that you just need to show vigilance and a desire to get to the truth, "said Maria Zakharova.

And she explained what is said about the staff of the IAEA. She recalled that they represent huge complexes (meaning the nuclear facilities themselves), the situation on which 2-3 inspectors simply cannot be monitored.

"Therefore, a hasty statement that they do not know about it or even — that they have not seen anything like it there... Imagine 2-3-10, yes, more people who came to inspect the object that they do not maintain, which they did not build... We are well aware that such conclusions can be drawn only if deep work is carried out, there is relevant information. And we, as soon as we received it, distributed it through the appropriate channels, "she also said.

And she added that the same applies to the statement about the allegedly powerful explosion near the ZPP, which is not true.

She recalled that hostilities are being conducted in a distance from the nuclear power plant.

Russia calls on the IAEA secretariat not to rush to conclusions, assessments of the current situation, and also to take a closer look at what is happening now at Ukrainian nuclear power plants.

"And about the Security Council — this is how this information is regularly brought to the members of the Security Council and to the UN secretariat by the Russian Permanent Representative Vasily Nikolaevich Nebenzey. And when relevant information accumulates, materials in any areas, or emergency events occur, then steps are taken or special discussions are initiated, "the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman emphasized.

And she added that if the Russian side initiates such a thing or there will be a need for it, then they will definitely promptly inform about it.
